With a strong security coverage, J&k sees the debut level of local elections today – a poll did controversial after the 2 main polling parties in the Valley, National Conference & Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP, removed out. With the federal government insistent on the election, voting is happening across 422 of the state’s 1,100 municipality wards. The list comprises 149 seats in the Valley, twenty-six in Ladakh, Jammu & Pirpanjal region.
Nearly 2,990 representatives are in the contest for the 4-phase election, that will finish on 16th October 2018. Voting has started at 7 am in the morning and will cease at 4 pm in the evening. Close to 240 contestants have been chosen without any opposition, most of them hail from the Kashmir valley. The Bhartiya Janata Party has told that it has had control over 7 municipal committees in Kashmir Valley as seventy-five of its nominees have been selected unopposed.

Voting started at 7 am in the morning for the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir urban body polls. Nearly 820 polling booths have been formed in three hundred and twenty one municipal wards for the elections.
